This is the sixth book in the English with Attitude series for Years 9 and 10 and takes Music as its theme. In line with the other books in this series, the author has made sure that the contexts will have appeal and be engaging to students at this level. They will be asked to study and then write song lyrics and prepare materials to promote their virtual smokefree rockquest band, they will read webpages, articles, reviews, extracts from novels, view music videos and compare CD covers, they will watch and analyse a movie and learn about opinion pieces. Artists are such people as Stan Walker (Australian Idol winner) and Gin Wigmore. The material addresses the NZC at Level 5 of English, including these achievement objectives: Show an understanding of how texts are shaped for different purposes and audiences; show an understanding of ideas within, across and beyond texts; Show an understanding of how to shape texts for different audiences and purposes; Select and use a range of language features appropriately, showing an understanding of their effects.
